To convey history.
Continuing on the path.
To commemorate the 1300th anniversary of Taga Castle's founding, Mayor Kosuke Fukaya and Ryojun Shionuma Ajarashi talked. We will talk about the present and future of Taga Castle with the keyword "1300".

Priest at Fukujuyama Jinguji Temple
Ryojun Shionuma
(Omine Sennichikaiho)
Daigyo Mandai Ajarashi -
Mayor Tagajo
Kosuke Fukaya
- Fukaya
- What kind of impression does Mr. Shionuma have on Tagajo?
- Shionuma
- I've always been interested in it because it was a very important place in history. A distant relative lived near the site of Taga Castle, and I remember that I came to play several times when I was a child and climbed a hill. Speaking of 1300 years, it is the same as the history of the temple I trained (Kimpusen-ji Temple in Yoshino, Nara Prefecture), and I am also interested in the combination of keywords or numbers this time.
- Fukaya
- Exactly. Actually, this time, I sent a love call to Mr. Shionuma for a dialogue, relying solely on the connection of "1300 years" (laughs). I think that Shionuma, who trained at a temple founded 1300 years ago, can have some common ideas and learn something.
- Shionuma
- What was the appearance of Tagajo 1300 years ago?
- Fukaya
- At that time, rivers flowed in the middle of the town, and fields and houses spread out in the surrounding area.…I think it was like that. It is said that one of the ways to enjoy the history of Tagajo is to stand on the ruins of the government office and think about it while putting such things in your head. .
- Shionuma
- I see. However, on the other hand, I don't feel that the image that Taga Castle was like this is not transmitted to people outside Tagajo City, so I'm going to send more and more words, letters, and more concrete images. Isn't it a good opportunity to do it?
- Fukaya
- You're right. There was a government office, an abandoned temple, and there was a residence of officials around it.…Other than that, I would like to examine the scenery of Taga Castle again.
- Shionuma
- Isn't it interesting to try something like a reproduction of the original scenery of Taga Castle?
- Fukaya
- Is Mr. Shionuma ever come to Tagajo?
- Shionuma
- Actually, I love Tagajo City Library. I'm always enviable why such a wonderful complex is not located in Sendai City.
- Fukaya
- Thank you very much! This is the concept of "Home for everyone." People who read books and newspapers, study, and enjoy eating and talking, I would like you to enjoy and relax as if you were at home.
- Shionuma
- That's the case with books and Starbucks. There are many things I love and the atmosphere is good. Only Tagajo is swirling (laughs). I've been here many times. I think it's a space where you can really relax. I'm a big fan.
- Fukaya
- I'm sorry. The staff involved in the construction of the facilities are also impressed.
- Fukaya
- Please tell us again what you felt in "Omine Sennichi Kaiho"*.
- Shionuma
- En no Gyoja, the founder of mountaineering asceticism, was trained 1300 years ago, and it was almost the same as 1300 years ago. Since the founders have dropped sweat and tears on the path, so there was a sense of "inheriting the tradition" that permeates himself as he walked. There is something that can be conveyed firmly. Taga Castle is also 1300 years old, so in that sense, it is important to "communicate what is transmitted" from its history.
- Fukaya
- The thoughts obtained from the fierce test would have been quite sharpened. Speaking of roads, there are both restored cobblestones and cobblestones that were laid 1300 years ago at the site of the government office.
- Shionuma
- Do you have cobblestones 1300 years ago? That's precious, isn't it?
- Fukaya
- Exactly. That's why I want many people to stand on the cobblestone and feel the same wind that they would have felt 1300 years ago.
- Shionuma
- That sounds great! Let's send out such things more and more. By the way, will you hold any commemorative event next year (2024, the 1300th anniversary of Tagajo)?
- Fukaya
- "The winter's tale" is a creative opera of a new era, spelled out in a symphony, video and song called "Tagajo Genesis" and "The winter's tale". – We will perform a stage drama that adapts William Shakespeare's "Winter Story" set in the Tohoku region of the late Heian period called Michinoku no Kuni "Winter Story". These are also held as performers and singers, so we also hold workshops. In addition, Tagajo is also a place for song pillows, so we plan to make various interesting approaches to expressions related to "words".
- Shionuma
- I'm looking forward to it because words are important.
- Fukaya
- As you mentioned earlier in mountaineering asceticism, did you feel like you were supported by the steep road that you walked through your training?
- Shionuma
- Nature sometimes supports the heart, but even in the same place, it can be life-threatening due to changes, such as bad weather the next day even though it was fine today. It's two sides of the same coin. That's why the most important thing in training is not to overdo it. If you want to go with courage alone, you don't have enough life. In the first place, it is impossible to reason, so it is important not to overdo it. On top of that, I feel that nature is always wrapped around me. That was the best support.
- Fukaya
- I understand. We also hold workshops to plant Cluster Amaryllis so that people can feel the rich nature just like 1300 years ago.
- Shionuma
- After all, the environment is important. At my Jigenji Temple, even if I am absent, as in today, I always try not to take any steps to create an environment, such as planting and cleaning, so that visitors can feel comfortable. . "Create a place" and "maintain it." It is important to create and continue.
- Fukaya
- Thank you very much. I think it's a word that leads to community development. Of course, "Omine Sennichi Komine", but in the current story, it is difficult to "continue".
- Shionuma
- It's simple, but I think it's best to keep doing the same thing steadily. Practice continues the same thing, but it is one of two things, "whether you do it properly or not", which is the same as life. It may feel troublesome, but continuing to "do it properly" is a shortcut, and as a result, it should be a great force.
- Fukaya
- The history of 1300 years is an important value that has been built by the ancestors who have continued properly, so I would like to engrave the current words more and more in my heart and pass the baton to the next generation.
- Shionuma
- The mayor is still young, so I want you to continue to work harder and harder for Taga Castle because small things are fine. Citizens will also be fun, and I think that it will be a "road" that will nurture the unique character of the mayor and continue to build on history.
- Fukaya
- That's the way. Thank you very much for the helpful story today.
