In the fresh year's beginning, in early spring's frosty air,
May today's falling snow
bring blessings aplenty.

The origin of the yogo

This waka is a song written by Otomo no Tabito, who is a renowned poet representing the Nara period and associated with the twilight of Tagajo, serves as the concluding verse in the oldest surviving anthology, the Manyoshu.
The expression "iyashike yogo to" encapsulates the wish for blessings to accumulate abundantly, akin to snowfall on the auspicious day of the new year.

May this beer, with each sip invoking such wishes, remain ever-present by your side.

The color and flavor of ancient rice,
with the aroma of honey.
A taste of blessings that has journeyed through 1300 years
of eternity.

Ancient rice

Ancient rice

In Tagajo, the historical practice of rice cultivation dates back to ancient times, as evidenced by excavations at the Special Historic Site, the Tagajo Ruins.
Wooden tablets inscribed with the characters "kokusho mai" found attached to rice bags unearthed during these excavations suggest the presence of rice cultivation during that period.
In light of this historical background, rice varieties resembling the ancient progenitors of rice have been certified as a specialty product of the city and are cultivated today. This ancient rice, which gleams with a purple hue, offers a chewy texture compared to regular rice and is rich in minerals, vitamins, and anthocyanins. Not only delicious, but it's also a welcome ingredient for beauty and health.

Honey

Honey

In the Nara period, honey was considered very valuable and used as a tribute and medicine. 'Shito Tagajo - Japanese Honey" is 100% pure honey harvested within Tagajo City.
Japanese honeybees collect nectar from various flowers, producing a uniquely flavorful honey known as "hyakka mitu".
It contains a balanced mix of vitamins, amino acids, and has antibacterial properties, making it a highly nutritious food.
